Intelligence from federal liaison sources indicates he served with Serb-aligned forces in northeastern Bosnia. Unit affiliation is believed to be with the Garda Panteri paramilitary group. Following the signing of the Dayton Agreement, Gvardia reportedly went into hiding from a variety of actors - namely rival paramilitaries (Arkan's Tigers), the Ždrale Crime Family, hostile factions within both the Republika Srpska and Serbian/Yugoslavian governments and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), for several years before emigrating to the United States in 2004.
