OFFICE OF LEGAL COUNSEL
DISTRICT ATTORNEY


District Attorney and Asst. District Attorney are positions within the Office of Legal Counsel, individuals assigned to this positions has the following duties;

 

  • Prosecute criminal cases on behalf of the state government with approval from State's Governor.
  • Evaluate evidence and make decisions on whether to file charges.
  • Supervise and manage the work of Assistant District Attorneys.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to investigate crimes.
  • Develop and implement crime prevention and community outreach programs with approval from State's Governor.
  • Provide legal advice to law enforcement agencies.


Authority of a District Attorney;

  • File criminal charges.
  • Issue subpoenas to gather evidence.
  • Represent the state in court proceedings.
